Halloween In The Junction

Monday, October 29th, 2007

On Saturday we did some trick or treating in Alaska Junction (downtown West Seattle). Zach and Nate were both looking good, even though Nater only had the hat on for his costume.  We walked around to the local businesses getting candy.  It started out good but got fairly crowded as the afternoon went on.  We made a quick exit and headed home.

Before I get to the photos, a little update. Last week was a nasty week at work. I was busy every day with some fairly involved things. Steph had her first week back and that went fairly normal for her. Otherwise not much new to report

From L to R, Matthew, Dominic, Drew, Jacob, and Zach (he’s so cute)

The family including our little lobster head.

That sure is a bright flash! Getting ready for school.

What a cool ride man!

PEPS on Wednesday will be at our house. We are all meeting here a little early then heading out trick or treating. Unfortunately we only have one little pumpkin – sad, I know. But we have plenty of candy unfortunately.

Good Use for United Miles

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

So United Airlines has a mileage plus store at store.ualmileageplus.com where you can redeem your points for stuff.  For example, I just picked up a 19″ LCD HDTV by Samsung for 56000 miles.

Considering I don’t use my miles, this is a sweat deal.  We’ve been wanting a better TV for the bedroom – this will be perfect.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t use your miles for whatever reason, this is a great way to dump them.  The site has home theater stuff, tools, jewelery, and a bunch of other crap.  Perfect way to waste..er..use your points.

Vomit Take 2

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Last night was daddy’s turn for the flu.  Not a good night…I lost 6 pounds in 6 hours!  I don’t suggest this diet.   I couldn’t even drink water without it coming back up.

Fortunately around 9am this morning I was able to take in liquids and get rehydrated.  Hopefully by tomorrow I’ll be better off (less frequent bathroom trips and the backache will go away)

Zach is all better – he recovered much quicker then me.  So far Nate and mommy have not been affected.  Hopefully they can avoid this one.

Vomit

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Yep, lots of Zacher vomit last night…Steph definitely took the brunt.  I believe she went through 3 shirts since Zach would run to her and throw up on her.  Better her than me ;-)

There has been a stomach flu going around daycares and our PEPS group so it isn’t a surprise Zach got sick.  The countdown starts for Steph and I now…when will we get sick.  Hopefully never, but this is definitely from a bug and not food poisoning.

Here are some shots of Nate kickin it in Zach’s bed then asleep.

Big Wind

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

We had our first large wind storm today.  The barometric pressure at our house got down to 29.33″ – not too shabby.  I went down to Alki with Zach at around 5pm to check out the wind and waves.  There was a guy down there with an anemometer recording sustained winds of 35 to 40 mph with gusts as high as 55.  On the radio we heard that Alki Point recorded a gust of 66 mph – Wow!

Zach had a good time in the wind and others got a good laugh watching walk around.

The many faces of Zach in the windstorm

And some shots of the waves

We lost power for about 90 minutes.  Definitely not as bad as the December 2006 windstorm, but this one did have a pretty decent punch.  From a rain standpoint there wasn’t much, just under .20″.  The storm front seemed to get blown apart so rain wasn’t a big part this time.  Unlike last December where the wind was preceded with some of the heaviest rain we’ve seen up here.

Bay Area Trip

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

We took a trip down to the Bay Area this last week. We flew down on Wednesday afternoon. While not as bad as past trips, the journey down was still pretty stressful. We decided to park at SeaTac vs parking at an offsite location. We almost didn’t find a spot – it took 15 minutes of driving around until we found someone leaving.

Zach was not the happiest camper waiting in line to check our luggage. Next was the security line which was very, very long. We went up to the Express Lane and begged them to let us through, which they did. So we didn’t have to wait in the security line. We got a bite to eat and headed to the gate. Zach was doing great until Mom and Nate went to the bathroom. At this point Zach completely lost it. The next 5 to 7 minutes were pure hell with him kicking, screaming, and hitting until mom returned. Zach slept on the flight down while Nate hung out quietly.

The days in the Bay Area went well. We spent time on Wednesday and Thursday with Steph’s parents. I did take Nate to see my family on Thursday for a short bit. I had lunch with Brian on Friday and we had dinner with my family on Friday night. We also stopped by and saw the Rossi’s and Bob on Friday night.

The trip home went very, very well. Zach was awesome. He was very patient while we checked in our luggage and went through security. He ate lunch and then ran around the chairs at the gates for close to an hour, but he never complained. He also slept for most of the flight home and Nate slept during most of the flight.

Today was absolutely beautiful in West Seattle. We took Zach and Nate to the park where we met Dominic and his parents. We all returned to our house for pizza and wine. Now we return to our normal grind.

Pumpkin Hunting

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

We went to Remlinger Farm out by Fall City this morning looking for pumpkins. Zach, Dominic, Drew, and Matthew were all present searching through the pumpkin patch. Fortunately for us parents, the rain held off and it was pleasant fall morning.

Here is a movie of our adventures today.

Now for some photos.

Zach all ready to go.

Matthew looking good in his Boston RS hat.

Drew and Debbie checking out a possible pumpkin.

Dominic posing for the camera.

Mom and Nate strolling around.

I’m cool!

Amazing Sunrise!

This morning we had a low cloud cover but had a view of the snow covered Olympics which were free of clouds.

Nap Time!

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

On Tuesday night I worked from 8pm to 2am (unexpectedly)…yeah just another night with busted crap at work. Anyway, I went into work for a half day morning on Wednesday and then spent a few hours at Harborview Hospital checking on a friend of ours.  When I returned home, I was pretty tired.  So Nate and I hung out on the couch…I was lying down with him on my chest.  Well, we ended up taking a 2 hour nap.

I don’t take many naps.  Actually, I never take naps unless I was up late for work.  So I really haven’t had Nate sleeping on me.  Anyway, the lil guy snoozed for 2 hours.  Zach was never like that – he would never be contained.  However, Nate definitely likes the cuddle time.  Frankly, so do I.

Dressing for the Rainy Season

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Nate was all bundled up today

Although, this next shot says he isn’t thrilled with being bundled up.

Where’s my shorts?!?

SeaTac recorded 1.19 inches of rain yesterday.  My rain gauge logged only about .75 inches although I’m not sure my rain gauge is all that accurate anymore – probably need to buy a new one.  Looks like rain and showers into the indefinite future.  Well, at least by June it should stop.

For those who don’t know, I cut my finger cutting tomatoes on Saturday night.  I tried to do the manly thing by applying pressure for 30 minutes so the bleeding would stop…no dice.  I finally had to go into the emergency to get a whole two stitches.  I actually went to the Issaquah ER since it’s never crowded…I had to wait zero minutes and I was out in less than an hour.  I assume if I went to First Hill this would have been at least a 2 hour ordeal.  Anyway, all is good now.  I’ll have to go to the doctor around Oct 9th to get the sutures removed.
