This morning we took the boys to Kubota Garden. It is a Japanese-style garden operated by the city of Seattle. It’s relatively large and there is no admission charge. Honestly, I was very impressed as it had several trails, ponds, creeks, waterfalls, and several varieties of trees. Being January, there wasn’t much in the way of plants to check out – at least from a color standpoint. The boys, especially Zach, loved it. They loved venturing up and down the trails, over bridges and along narrow paths. The main hiccup came when Nate wanted to go back to the same bridge over and over…finally, mom had to drag him away and that was the end of it for Nate – Total Meltdown! Nate begin 1 and 1/2 is at that ripe tantrumy age where he knows what he wants but doesn’t understand why he can’t have it. Afterwards we took the boys to the Elliott Bay Brewery (our usual hangout) for lunch. Now the lil terrors are peacefully sleeping. Here are some picts.
Overlooking one of the many streams and ponds.
Close up of water on needles.
Some of the color that was on display today.
It’s not often I get a shot of the boys together – here they are on what would become Nate’s bridge.
Nate leading mommy to another bridge.
Zach movin all over the grounds.
Fern sitting on water. This was taken handheld with a 300mm lens at 1/30 f/4…not too bad.
Nate’s bridge.
Nate protesting. I think he’ll make a fine anti-war activist some day with all of this practice.
On the weather note, we received about a 1/4″ of snow last night and it’s been snowing very, very lightly all day with no accumulation. Supposedly, this snow will end in a few hours and the temps will plummet into the low 20s. The expectation is a return to warmer, rainier weather later this week.
