This has nothing to do with the baby we’re about to have…not yet at least.
Last weekend I decided to go out to the driving range in Burlingame. This was the first time in 2 years I have hit a golf ball. So the first 10 shots were downright crappy! But then I corrected a few things (loosen up the grip, keep my head down, swing thru the ball, slow down my swing, etc) and things started to click. But I was still slicing everything. Slow it down a little more and things were beginning to go straight. I hit 100 balls…and I could feel the muscles in my arms, neck, shoulders, back, chest, and abdomen pulling. I realized that I may be sore the next day. Oh well. I continued through the bucket of balls. It took about 30 minutes and then I headed home. Next I went for a 3.5 mile jog…nothing new here. This is something I do about 3 times a week. It was the next item that put me over the top. I went to the batting cages. Ok, so I haven’t been to the batting cages in 15 to 20 years. Worse yet I was a complete nightmare in the cage. I stepped in and the first 25 swings were incredibly painful on the hands. Not too mention the 3 blisters I already created. What is wrong? It shouldn’t be this bad. Well, I was standing too close to the plate and hitting everything off the inside of the bat. Take a step back…bingo…things felt better. However, the damage was done. All those muscles I stretched playing golf were really hurt in the batting cage. Plus I had 3 ugly blisters on my left hand. Sunday and Monday had to be the most painful days I’ve experienced in a long time. My upper body was one giant sore muscle. Not even my 3 to 4 advil could help. This is what the years do to you? I haven’t even discussed the 2 pulled muscles I experienced 2 weeks ago playing soccer. I’m bummed because I enjoy this activity but everytime I play, I get injured. Maybe I just need to slow down a bit…stick with golf and jogging. Definitely no more batting cages. I’m sure I’ll be back to soccer soon, after we get settled down with the little one…that story will be here soon.
